Classroom Under the Sea

Earlier in October, two educators living underwater for 73 days began an online lecture series called Classroom Under the Sea. Biology professor Bruce Cantrell and adjunct professor Jessica Fain from Roane State Community College in East Tennessee are living and working in an underwater habitat—Jules’ Undersea Lodge on Key Largo in the Florida Keys—for 73 days. While in the habitat, Fain and Cantrell are hosting “Classroom Under the Sea,” presented by Roane State and the Marine Resources Development Foundation on Key Largo.

Recent guests on the show include astronauts Buzz Aldrin and Mike Gernhardt. Later this week, Renowned marine life artist Wyland and underwater photographer Stephen Frink will share how the ocean influences their work and how they use art to show the fragility of the ocean. Viewers can watch the series here. Additionally, class materials such as lab lesson plans can be downloaded for free for each episode of “Classroom Under the Sea” here.
