Video Game Helps Students Get Into College

Applying to college is a process that involves a lot of deadlines and to-do-lists. For students who need help remembering what to submit when, there’s a video game called “Mission Admission” that uses “competitive but lighthearted tasks” to make them familiar with exams, essays, financial aid forms, and application deadlines. Early research shows that the program, developed by USC technology and education professors through a US Department of Education grant, improved knowledge of the college application and aid process.

Study Shows People Warming up to Online Ed

A new Gallup study recently showed that Americans’ perspective on online education has shifted as these programs become more prevalent. According to the report, more people in the United States now see these programs as a viable alternative to traditional brick-and-mortar campus learning environments. Their trust in these learning styles has grown with their increased acceptance. More U.S. adults, 37% (up from 30% in a 2011 survey), now agree or strongly agree that these institutions offer high-quality education. American business leaders’ perception of online education has also improved.
